Did you know?
Underworks socks are fully fashioned. This means the socks are knitted into their shape by a knitting machine and there is minimal or zero yarn waste compared with cut-and-sew garments, which can produce up to 30% wastage.
Our Cottons
Underworks is proud that it currently sources cotton from sustainable cotton sources. We managed to transition away from conventional cotton back in 2021. All our cotton is from Better Cotton and certified organic cotton. These types of cotton can use less water, energy, and chemicals than conventional cotton.
Better Cotton
By Choosing Better Cotton products, you are supporting the investment in Better Cotton mission. Products are currently sourced by a system of mass balance. Better Cotton trains farmers to use water efficiently, care for soil health and natural habitats, reduce the use of harmful chemicals and respect workers' rights and wellbeing.
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is grown in a way that uses methods and materials that lessen the impact on our environment, it doesn’t use any harmful chemicals and the production also benefits soil rather than damaging it.
Bamboo
Bamboo is derived from a wild, regenerative, and abundantly available plant species that grows naturally. It requires much less water than most other tree species to grow and it requires no pesticides and fertilisers either.
Our bamboo sock range contains viscose derived from bamboo. This bamboo is certified by EcoCert and OEKO-TEX.
Viscose and Modal
Viscose is derived from the cellulose or wood pulp from regenerative trees such as eucalyptus, beech, and pine. Our Viscose is sourced by Canopy’s Green Shirt listed companies, this means the adoption of robust forest sourcing policies, making sure they are not sourced from endangered forest.
Modal is also made from the beech tree and are made similarly.
Canopy
Canopy is a non-for-profit multi-stakeholder initiative on a mission to protect forests globally by eliminating sourcing from Ancient and Endangered forests and to conserve the environment, climate, species, and indigenous communities. We partner with Canopy to support approaches and systems to build a future that does not use Ancient and Endangered Forests in packaging, paper or in man-made cellulosic fabrics, including rayon, viscose, lyocell, modal and other trademarked brands. By joining CanopyStyle and the Pack4Good initiative, we commit to protecting the world’s remaining Ancient and Endangered Forests and endangered species habitats.
